Athens Alumni History
Through the interest and initiative of Brother Walter R. Allen, Sr., a group of fourteen brothers throughout Northeast Georgia became charter members of the Alumni Chapter. The chapter was chartered on April 7, 1962 at 7:30 P.M. by then Southeastern Province Polemarch Joseph R. Jenkins. Athens Alumni was incorporated by the State of Georgia on May 14, 1963. The charter members of the Athens Alumni chapter were Robert Allen, Walter R. Allen, Sr., Milton Bostic, William Breeding, Sr., Ulysses Byas, James Hawes, Robert F. Jackson, Sr., William Lyles, William Lynch, Alvin Moore, Reginald Peek, John W. Roberts, Sr., Arthur Terrell, and Ray B. Ware. The Athens Alumni Chapter is proud of the accomplishments and achievements of its members. They have provided various supports in the areas of community and civic activities, while providing scholarships to deserving students. In 1987 the Athens Alumni Chapter established a $13,500.00 scholarship at the University of Georgia where the interest will support the needs of deserving minority students. The Kappa Alpha Psi-Ence program was created in 2008 and implemented at Howard B. Stroud Elementary School. The chapter also holds a life membership in the NAACP and participates in numerous community service outreach programs in the Athens area.
